Where I'm from vampires were made by magic. A witch wanted to protect her children, so she made them into the first vampires. When she realized what she'd done, she decided that was a terrible idea, and spent the next thousand years trying to kill all of them. Werewolves are our natural enemies.
Except Original brother number... three? He's a hybrid.

She has.She's only a year old, so she still has all these stupidly human ideas about how wrong it is. She thinks it's wrong to treat humans as meals rather than people.
( it's... exhausting. and trying to get her to work through her issues is even more exhausting. it's not like they even have to drink from the vein here, elena just likes to make herself feel like shit for stupid reasons. )

The Original hybrid, Klaus, was a werewolf first. When he made his first kill as a vampire, his werewolf gene triggered and he turned. As a hybrid he was too strong, so his mother did a spell to divide his nature and keep his werewolf side from manifesting. Fast forward a thousand years, he kills my girlfriend to undo the spell, then uses her blood to turn more werewolves into hybrids.
How'd you do it?
( hopefully not by killing an innocent human girl just trying to protect her loved ones. damon... might not like that too much. )

[ The thought is just strange to Rafa. He's very used to walking in the night. He'd lived a near-nocturnal existence even when he was human, given that he was raised by vampires. The idea of walking in it is incredible to him. He can't picture it.
As for the fae, he doesn't contradict Damon; clearly, he has told the story properly. It's clear to him already that magic is far more involved with Damon's kind than his. But in the case of hybrids, it actually did have a role. ]
by experimenting when i tried to turn one of them, they healed too quickly for my blood to take root it cleared it away like an infection
so i got a witch to help, and use magic to suppress the wolf then i turned their human side, and when the witch let go, it was too late for the wolf to heal it away and so the hybrid was born. they are different from us they can still transform. and their vampire side can cope better with magic, and with sunlight and they are stronger. faster. the greatest creatures i have ever turned and now the pack are allies of my coven.
[ He's proud of them. But more than that, the wolves are his friends. He'd turned them because of that, so that they would be immortal, for though they had been long-lived as werewolves, they were mortal creatures still. Now they are something much more, and Rafa need not lose any of them. ]
