It's accompanied by - well, by barely restrained happiness with an equal amount of amusement, and an underlying sense of a bewildered sort of contentment.

❰ damon is always aware of sam, in much the same way he's always aware of elena — he keeps tabs on them, a small portion of his head always dedicated to following the two of them through the link. this means damon is more or less always aware of their emotional states, and while he has noticed that sam is pretty happy right now, he never made particular note of it the way he might if sam was upset.
when sam turns his attention more fully to damon and damon feels that happiness in full force, sam gets the sensation of a raised eyebrow back, at the forefront of a settled sense of peace that has never been part of damon's mental landscape before.
